Environmental education

We also do exercises in terrain with PASCO sensors and speak about ecological topics (sustainable development in the region of our school). Students understand more the meaning of water and soil contamination, the danger of organism contamination, understand how they can by measurement reveal possible leak of fertilizers and thus point out to ecological problems. Thanks to a sensitive sensors, it is possible to study water, soil and air contamination
in terrain, to compare the results from not only different areas of our school, but farther places as well. A natural science course is prepared for our students, which includes exploration of environment, lectures about ecology. It is possible to measure the amounts of nitrates, chlorides, ammonium ions, conductivity, turbidity and pHs.

Workbook pages are mostly dedicated to environmental education. Students will read about how fertilizers and waste materials contaminate water and soil. After its presentation the students will go to terrain, to measure with the help of PASCO sensors the increased number of ions occurring in the surrounding waters and soil. Then they will interconnect the class discussion with knowledge, experimental results of measurements in the conclusion to find out whether the neighbourhood is polluted, what is the cause and what can be done. This analysis can be interesting for students in such way so that they can focus on such terrain exercises in their future careers. They only differ in superior devices and programmes for data analysis.
